Since its formation in 1997, GLPK Racing has been a front-runner in national and international GT races. 6 national endurance titles together with various international achievements form the team's track record over the past 8 years. Some of the more renowned drivers which drove for GLPK Racing in the past (or present) include :
Patrick Snijers, Marc Duez, Jean-Francois Hemroulle, Vincent Vosse, Didier Defourny, Anthony Kumpen, Paul Kumpen, Wim Daems, Kurt Thiers, Georg Severich, Patrick Schreurs, Vincent Dupont, Tamas Illes, Eric Geboers, Stephane Cohen, Stefan Everts, Herman Buurman, Bert Longin, Mike Hezemans, Frederic Bouvy, Kurt Mollekens, Pedro Lamy…
The team is owned by Paul Kumpen, an entre-preneur in road construction works from Hasselt and Ghislain Lenaers, all-round businessman in project-development from Houthalen. GLPK runs a full-time staff of 3 employees. Daily management is in hands of Jorge Segers, while the workshop is being run by Frank Steukers and Ludo Bex. During the race weekends this staff is extended to about 30 people taking care of the racecars, team catering and hospitality.
Paul Kumpen founded 'PEKA Racing' as early as 1968, which makes it the oldest racing team in Belgium. It started out as a rally-cross project, but later developed into single seaters (Formula Renault and Opel Lotus) and GT Racing. GL Racing was created in 1991 and soon became a frontrunner in national endurance championships. In 1997 the 2 teams decided to go together in order to create chances to go international. Since then the team has achieved an amazing track record...
GLPK Racing focusses its attention on the Mediagroup Van Dyck Belcar Championship, a series which it has won 6 times since the creation of the team in ’97. But also in the rest of Europe and the world the team has a vast reputation. 2 participations in the world-famous 24 hours of Daytona and campaigns in the FIA GT world championship in 1999, 2001 and 2005 appear on GLPK’s resume. Other series in which the team succesfully competed are the Euro GT series, the GTR Euroseries, the French GT Championship and the Dutch Supercar Challenge.
The team was also active in various outsourced projects:
In 2003 GLPK Racing was involved in the development of the Pagani Zonda GT R, a project started by the Dutch Carsport Modena Team, and prepared a Chrysler Viper for the Swedish Roos-Optima Racing team in the FIA GT Championship. 2004 saw the team run the Dome of Coronel/Firman/Wilson in the 24 Hours of LeMans. Various similar projects rely on the competence and skill of the GLPK staff.
